Description

This unit presents key concepts and issues in social, health and environmental psychology. Social cognitive approaches to social judgement and categorisation are discussed. The nature of attitudes and their role in information processing and behaviour is examined. Conceptions of social influence and basic group processes are covered. Prejudice and intergroup relations research traces progress from personality approaches to contemporary social identity theory perspectives. Finally, the role of psychological processes in health are described. Thus, the course emphasises the role psychology in our understanding of social, health and environmental issues.
